When you need high-quality sound for your podcast, the new Shure MV7+ microphone is an excellent choice regardless of your recording equipment. Developed alongside the SM7B microphone, the MV7+ works both as a USB microphone and as a traditional microphone via XLR connection. The new plus model features a customizable LED touch panel, powerful DSP functions, and even better sound quality than its predecessor.
Like its predecessor, the MV7+ is a dynamic microphone housed in a metal, tubular casing with the familiar metal yoke mount. A new, more sensitive capsule has been developed for the MV7+ microphone, which requires less gain than the SM7B when using the XLR connection. Depending on the sound source, the MV7+ typically operates within a gain range of about 35 dB, making it suitable even for the preamps of more affordable audio interfaces.
When using the USB-C connection, the MV7+ includes an improved Auto Level Mode from the original, making it easy to set the correct recording level. The built-in DSP processing offers the most common recording tools: a three-position equalizer and compressor, as well as a separate limiter to ensure the sound does not distort and remains clear. Additional DSP features include a digital pop filter, real-time denoiser, and reverb effect. The DSP is easiest to control via the ShurePlus app, similar to other products in the Motiv series, but basic settings can also be accessed through the microphone’s own touch controls. Bypassing the DSP is also naturally possible if you want to do processing later in your recording software. With the USB connection, the device’s maximum SPL level is 132 dB, and conversion happens at 16 or 24-bit resolution. The microphone also features a headphone amplifier for zero-latency monitoring.
