The Black Diamond Beta Light 30 backpack is an ultra-light carrying device for a couple of nights of fast hiking or a hiking backpack pared down to the essentials. The backpack is mainly made from high-quality, lightweight, and durable Challenge Sailcloth Ultra 200 fabric relative to its weight. More durable Ultra 400 material is used in areas more prone to wear. Together with the roll-top closure, the waterproof fabric makes the backpack very weather-resistant. However, the seams are not sealed, so it is not completely waterproof.

Inspired by running backpacks, the vest-like carrying system distributes weight evenly and keeps the backpack securely in place. The shoulder straps also have additional pockets, for example, for snacks. The detachable hip belt also has zippered pockets on both sides. The support plate that adds stability to the backpack is also removable. Fully equipped, the backpack weighs only 695 g. Without the support plate and hip belt, the backpack weighs just 452 g.

The front of the backpack has an elastic mesh pocket, and the sides have stretch pockets. Extremely lightweight yet functional compression straps help secure gear tightly and attach lightweight items to the outside of the backpack. Inside the backpack, there is a compartment for a hydration bladder.
