The Aqara G4 is the first battery- or rechargeable-powered video doorbell that supports Apple HomeKit Secure Video. The video doorbell’s resolution is Full HD 1920 x 1080 with a wide 162\u00b0 angle. In addition to good image quality, other features include two-way audio, IR night vision, a passive infrared sensor, and support for local memory card recording. The memory card is installed inside the chime unit, so the card cannot be accessed through the doorbell itself.<\/p>\n
The Aqara Smart Video Doorbell G4 connects to the home\u2019s wireless 2.4 GHz WiFi network. More specifically, the included chime acts as a WiFi repeater and is connected to the home wireless network. The chime and G4 video doorbell are factory paired, so the devices automatically establish a wireless connection. The chime features a USB-C port and comes with a USB cable. The chime\u2019s power source can be a 5V 1A power supply or, if needed, a power bank.<\/p>\n
The video doorbell includes locally operating AI intelligence that can be used for facial recognition. The video doorbell can be trained to recognize family members\u2019 faces, and notifications are based on recognized faces (this feature can also be turned off). For motion detection, the video doorbell also includes a passive infrared sensor, which improves detection reliability. The G4 can also detect loitering or tampering with the video doorbell and will alert via the chime and notifications if these are detected.<\/p>\n
The camera records by default to a separately purchased microSD memory card. The memory card is exceptionally installed in the chime, not directly in the video doorbell. If the video doorbell is battery-powered, recordings occur based on motion or facial recognition. When using the video doorbell with mains power, continuous 24\/7 recording to the memory card can be enabled. Aqara also offers a cloud service that stores motion detection recordings for up to seven (7) days (service terms and pricing may change later). The cloud service is optional; motion detection recordings can always be saved to the memory card (recording length is six seconds at a time).<\/p>\n
The Smart Video Doorbell G4 offers full support for Apple HomeKit Secure Video. HomeKit Secure Video provides end-to-end encrypted video and security. This ensures that only users of the video doorbell can access the camera\u2019s video stream and recordings. You can also create rules and automations with other HomeKit devices in your home. Naturally, the G4 also fully supports Aqara\u2019s own ecosystem. If you have an Aqara hub and other connected sensors and accessories, the G4 video doorbell can be used as one device when creating rules. For example, if a separate motion sensor detects movement, a rule can be created to immediately activate the G4\u2019s included chime (95 dB volume).<\/p>\n
Privacy protection has been considered both for the user and neighbors. When using two-way audio, your voice can be disguised to be unrecognizable. For neighbors and the environment, up to three separate areas can be marked or masked in the camera\u2019s view.<\/p>\n
Battery life up to 4 months. Battery life is significantly affected by operating temperature, settings, video doorbell usage, and the number of motion detections. A 4-month life is possible if the video doorbell wakes a maximum of 35 times per day and records six-second videos daily.<\/em> The HomeKit Secure Video feature requires the user to have at least a 50 GB iCloud+ storage subscription, as well as an Apple TV or HomePod speaker acting as a home hub. If there are multiple video doorbells or cameras on the service (max. 5 units), a 200 GB subscription is needed.
