The Zoll AED Plus is an easy-to-use and reliable semi-automatic defibrillator that guides and instructs the user with audio, text, and visual commands throughout the entire resuscitation process. It assesses the electrode connection and the patient’s ECG to determine if defibrillation is necessary. The shockable rhythms include ventricular fibrillation with an average amplitude of > 100 microvolts and broad, complex ventricular tachycardia (heart rate over 150 in adults, 200 in children).
With an automatic self-test feature, it checks the battery capacity, electrode connection, ECG and charging circuits, microprocessor hardware and software, CPR circuits, CPR-D sensor, and audio circuit. The customizable automatic self-test can be set to run every 1-7 days, with a default of every 7 days. It also includes a monthly full energy test (200J).
The battery capacity typically lasts five years (225 shocks) or 13 hours of continuous monitoring at 20°C. A red X mark indicates low battery (usually indicating enough power for 9 more shocks). Data storage allows for 50 minutes of ECG and resuscitation data. If audio recording is enabled, it captures 20 minutes of sound, ECG, and resuscitation data; if disabled, it retains 7 hours of ECG and resuscitation data. Minimum PC requirements for configuration and data storage include Windows 98, Windows 2000, Windows NT, Windows XP, Windows 7, an IBM-compatible PII 16550 UART (or newer) computer, 64MB RAM, a VGA monitor or better, a CD-ROM drive, an IrDA port, and 2MB of hard drive space.
Durability is ensured with a high IP55 rating. The automatic self-test guarantees the device’s operational readiness. A clear operational status indicator shows the device’s condition. The battery life can last up to five years in standby mode or at least 300 defibrillation attempts. The device also includes a pediatric resuscitation program that activates automatically when child electrodes are connected. It comes ready to use, complete with the device, electrodes, batteries, and a carrying case.
