The Huawei FreeBuds Pro 5 is a wireless in-ear headphone combining a dual-driver system, AI-based active noise cancellation, and extensive codec support. The frequency response ranges from 10 Hz to 48 kHz, and the headphones are certified according to both HWA Lossless and Hi-Res Audio Wireless standards. A single earbud weighs 5.5 g, and the battery life lasts up to 9 hours (ANC off) or 38 hours with the charging case. The protection rating is IP57 for the earbuds and IP54 for the case. The headphones are made from skin-friendly and durable materials and have passed environmental and health tests.
The headphones feature a dual-driver system: a 4-magnet dynamic driver handles the low frequencies, and a separate micro planar diaphragm driver handles the treble. A separate dual-chamber design reduces distortion and improves sound control. Dual DAC technology complements the setup. Supported codecs include L2HC, LDAC, AAC, and SBC — lossless sound quality requires a Huawei phone with L2HC support.
The FreeBuds Pro 5 is Huawei’s first in-ear headphone equipped with dual-motor ANC: both drivers participate in noise cancellation, the dynamic driver for low frequencies and the planar driver for highs. The MIMO AI detection model samples environmental noise 400,000 times per second and continuously adjusts the attenuation. ANC performance is up to 120% better compared to the previous generation. The earbud also integrates a bone conduction microphone for calls.
Three Awareness modes: Standard (ambient sounds pass through), Voice (background noise is reduced but speech and announcements are audible), and Adaptive mode (automatically adjusts based on the environment). Adaptive volume raises or lowers playback volume according to the ambient noise level — works for both music listening and calls. Conversation Awareness switches from ANC to Voice mode and automatically lowers music volume when you start speaking.
Four preset audio profiles: Balanced, Classical, Vocal, and Bass. Additionally, there is a 10-band equalizer for creating a custom profile in the HUAWEI Audio Connect app. Spatial audio with head tracking is supported regardless of device or content.
Bluetooth 6.0 enables simultaneous connection to two devices with different operating systems (iOS, Android, Windows), and the connection switches automatically between devices. Gesture controls include five gestures: pinch, tap, long pinch, long touch, and swipe — all customizable in the app. Head movements can answer or reject calls by nodding or shaking.
The earbud has a 60 mAh cell, and the charging case has a capacity of 537 mAh. The case can be charged via USB-C cable (5 V / 0.5 A) or wirelessly. The earbuds fully charge in about 40 minutes, and the case charges via cable in about 60 minutes.
