See and be seen – The Garmin Varia™ RTL516 radar and tail light brings safety to your cycling adventures with its lightweight design and bright light that shines up to 20 lumens, providing an impressive 220-degree visibility.
The updated version of the Garmin Varia supports the Varia app, so you won’t need a separate cycling computer. The RTL516 is also approved for road use in Germany and doesn’t include flashing functions. While a flashing light can grab attention, it is illegal in many countries and may trigger migraines or even seizures. Plus, the direction and speed of a flashing light can be harder to notice compared to a steady beam.
This radar detects approaching vehicles from at least 140 meters away, illuminating a bright light that spans up to 220 degrees and providing an audible alert to ensure you’re seen in time. It primarily focuses on detecting speed differences, allowing it to distinguish between fast-approaching and slowly overtaking objects. This lightweight and streamlined device easily attaches vertically to your bike’s seat post, and with a battery life of up to ten hours, you can ride safely for longer periods.
The device requires a separate Garmin cycling computer, app, or wireless connection to compatible devices.
