The Garmin Varia RearVue 820 StVZO is a rear radar and light that alerts you to approaching vehicles on a compatible Edge cycling computer, Garmin smartwatch, or the Varia app on your smartphone. The brightness of the rear light is visible up to 350 meters away, enhancing visibility in traffic.
The Varia RearVue 820 uses precise and powerful radar technology that detects the size and threat level of vehicles. It detects vehicles that are following the cyclist at the same speed or attempting to overtake, and provides real-time alerts. Note that same-speed tracking works limitedly or may not be available at low speeds or when the radar cannot detect the road due to weather conditions or obstacles.
The rear light battery lasts up to 16 hours, and the radar-only mode battery life is up to 30 hours. This allows for extended use without frequent charging, which is convenient for longer bike rides.
The device mounts to the seatpost and supports the Varia seatpost mount kit (sold separately). By connecting the device to the Varia app on your smartphone or a compatible Garmin device, you receive visible and audible alerts that help you stay aware of traffic behind you.
The bright rear light helps vehicles approaching from behind to notice the cyclist in time. Alerts about approaching vehicles and their movements increase the cyclist’s situational awareness and safety in traffic.
