The Continental GP 5000S TR is also a tubeless ready road tire suitable for hookless rims. Both the tire’s rolling efficiency and puncture protection have been improved from the previous model, thanks in part to a new casing structure. The new two-layer 2/220 tpi casing enhances sidewall cut resistance while remaining more flexible, resulting in better rolling performance. It also includes well-known proven technologies such as Vectran puncture protection and the Lazer Grip micro-profile, which provides exceptional grip and reliability in cornering.
According to Continental, the new model is 20% faster, offers 28% better sidewall protection, and weighs 50-70 grams less depending on the size.
Vectran is a puncture protection developed and patented by Continental that is lighter, more flexible, and more effective than comparable nylon puncture protection. It does not compromise the tire’s rolling resistance. Vectran is a liquid crystal polymer (LCP), similar to spider silk, spun from melted Vectra liquid polymer and further processed into multi-filament yarn. Like spider silk, Vectran resists tearing very well while remaining lightweight.
