The Boss RT-2 Rotary Ensemble brings the legendary sound of rotating speakers in a compact pedalboard-friendly form. It offers an authentic and versatile spatial effect suitable for guitars, basses, organs, and other instruments. With the RT-2, you can create a traditional Leslie-style sound as well as two more modern versions that add expression and distortion to your playing. The pedal’s extensive controls and various speed settings make it a flexible tool for both studio and live situations.
The RT-2 accurately models the behavior of a rotating speaker sound, traditionally achieved with physical motors in rotating speakers. This phenomenon is especially known for organ tones, but the RT-2 is suitable for many instruments. The pedal features two virtual rotors – treble and bass rotors – whose speeds can be switched between fast and slow. Additionally, the transition time between speeds can be adjusted with the Rise/Fall Time switch, making the sound change smooth and natural.
The Mode switch selects from three different sound modes:
Mode I offers a faithful new version of the classic vintage Leslie sound, suitable for a wide range of instruments.
Mode II expands the tonal range and works especially well with overdrive or distortion pedals, providing a richer and broader sound.
Mode III emphasizes clarity and modulation intensity, adding distortion and presence particularly for arpeggios and solos.
The Drive control lets you add vintage-style tube amplifier-like distortion to the sound, adjusting the amount of distortion from mild to intense. The rear panel switch allows the Drive control to also adjust the volume balance of the treble and bass rotors, giving you different tonal options. Settings are saved automatically, so they are ready the next time the device is powered on.
The RT-2 offers versatile control options. The footswitch has four modes, allowing you to bypass the effect or adjust rotor speed during playing. You can also connect two separate footswitches to control speed and brake, stopping the virtual rotors in desired positions. The expression pedal enables continuous adjustment of level, distortion, balance, and speed, with individual settings for each parameter. The RT-2 supports mono and stereo inputs and outputs and has two stereo output modes: standard stereo and separate outputs for dry and effected signals.
