The Black Diamond Beta Light 45 backpack is an ultra-light carrier for longer hikes with lightweight gear. The backpack is mainly made of high-quality, lightweight, and durable Challenge Sailcloth Ultra 200 fabric relative to its weight. More durable Ultra 400 material is used in areas more exposed to wear. Together with the roll-top closure, the waterproof fabric makes the backpack very resistant to the elements. However, the seams are not sealed, so it is not completely waterproof.
The vest-like carrying system, inspired by running backpacks, distributes weight evenly and keeps the pack securely in place. The shoulder straps also have additional pockets, for example, for snacks. The detachable hip belt also has zippered pockets on both sides. The backpack’s aluminum support rails and the support plate are also removable. Fully equipped, the backpack weighs only 890 g. Without the aluminum supports, support plate, and hip belt, the pack weighs just 521 g.
The front of the backpack has an elastic mesh pocket, and the sides have stretch pockets. Extremely lightweight yet functional compression straps help secure gear tightly and attach lightweight items outside the pack. Inside the backpack, there is a compartment for a hydration bladder.
Features
American climber Yvon Chouinard founded Black Diamond in the 1950s and started making and selling climbing equipment himself. The company is known worldwide, especially in climbing, hiking, and skiing circles, for its quality.
