The Black Diamond Beta Light 30 backpack is an ultra-light carrying device for a couple of nights’ quick hikes or a hiking backpack pared down to the essentials. The backpack is mainly made of high-quality, lightweight, and durable Challenge Sailcloth Ultra 200 fabric relative to its weight. More durable Ultra 400 material is used in areas more prone to wear. Together with the roll-top closure, the waterproof fabric makes the backpack very resistant to the elements. However, the seams of the backpack are not sealed, so it is not completely waterproof.

The vest-style carrying system, inspired by running backpacks, distributes the weight evenly and keeps the backpack firmly in place. The shoulder straps also have additional pockets, for example, for snacks. The detachable hip belt also features zippered pockets on both sides. The support plate that adds stability to the backpack is also removable. Fully equipped, the backpack weighs only 695 g. Without the support plate and hip belt, the backpack weighs just 452 g.

The front of the backpack has an elastic mesh pocket and stretchy side pockets. Extremely lightweight yet functional compression straps help secure items tightly and attach lightweight gear to the outside of the backpack. Inside the backpack, there is a compartment for a hydration bladder.
