Ratatan is a rhythm-based roguelike side-scrolling game that combines rhythm commands, strategy, and action. The game can be played solo or cooperatively with up to four players. On the fields, players face over 100 different characters in massive close-combat battles. The player controls their Cobun troops by issuing rhythm commands to the beat of the music and freely moving the Ratatan character around the field.
Cobun troops move and attack according to rhythm commands – the player must issue orders in the right direction to the beat of the music. The Ratatan character can be moved freely, so the player decides where commands are given, when to attack, and when to retreat. Sense of rhythm and tactical thinking determine how many Cobuns survive through the long adventures.
When the player stays in rhythm long enough, the team enters Fever Mode. The background music changes dynamically, and the Cobuns start intense dance moves that boost their performance. In multiplayer, all players entering Fever Mode simultaneously takes the intensity to the peak.
The game can be played solo or cooperatively with up to four players. In multiplayer, each player controls their own team, and cooperating to stay in rhythm provides everyone with an advantage in battles.
Ratatan utilizes charming 2D animation where character movements are full of personality. The Cobuns sway and wobble as they follow commands, and enemies try to intimidate with their often humorous moves. Catchy and rhythmic music runs throughout the entire game.
