The Herman Miller Sayl office chair is designed with a focus on great value for money, while also ensuring it remains beautiful, ergonomic, elegantly crafted, and environmentally friendly.
Designer Behar drew inspiration from the Golden Gate Bridge in his hometown of San Francisco, contemplating whether the design principles of the bridge could be applied to an office chair. He ultimately created a vertical pillar for the chair, serving as its “spine,” to which a flexible 3D-printed mesh was attached. The design of the mesh backrest took into account the distribution of the sitter’s weight and the need for body support. As the backrest began to resemble a sail on a sailboat, the chair was aptly named Sayl, a blend of sail and the Y-pillar of the suspension bridge.
