The popular Trendline routing technology effectively utilizes ride data to create routes. When planning your ride, the Edge 1040 identifies the best paths based on frequently traveled roads (and trails) by other cyclists. You can also create additional popular cycling routes using the enhanced and revamped Course Creator feature on Garmin Connect.
Garmin guides you both on-road and off-road. The Edge 1040 cycling computer comes preloaded with a global Garmin cycling map, detailed navigation instructions, and new navigation alerts that warn of sharp turns ahead. While riding, you’ll receive useful elevation data, see points of interest, and can search for addresses. The route planning feature even creates routes for you—just provide the Edge 1040 with your destination and starting direction, and it will display up to three route options. Plus, if you stray off course, the smart feature will guide you back. The Edge 1040 is also your companion for long journeys, with a battery life of up to 100 hours, and thanks to the integrated Garmin Charge power pack, it lasts as long as you do.

With the rider messaging feature, you can send predefined messages from the Edge 1040 to other Edge devices.
